The setting for my practicum is the emergency room of a large urban hospital. This high-intensity healthcare environment presents unique challenges for nursing leadership, making it an ideal setting for my project on concept-based and evidence-based learning strategies in creating nurse leaders. The purpose of conducting an organizational needs assessment in this setting is to identify areas for improvement and to develop strategies that will enhance the development of nurse leaders.
One of the needs that I have identified is the need for a more structured and standardized approach to leadership development. While there are some existing training programs in place, they tend to be ad-hoc and not consistently applied. This leads to inconsistencies in leadership skills and knowledge among nursing staff, potentially impacting patient outcomes. Another need that I have identified is the need for a stronger emphasis on evidence-based practice in leadership development.
